About this Event

StreetARToronto and Market Gallery Presents:

Tea and Talk Event

with Indigenous artist Philip Cote, MFA

Market Gallery 95 Front St E, Toronto, ON M5E 1C2

February 29, 1pm – 3pm

Philip Cote, MFA, Noodjmowin Misko-gayaashk (Moose Deer Point First Nation: Shawnee, Lakota, Potawatomi, Ojibway, Algonquin, and Mohawk) is an artist, activist, historian and Ancestral Knowledge Keeper.

Philip’s talk will focus on his commitment of bringing Indigenous narratives through visual storytelling into public spaces. His vision as an Indigenous Artist is to carry on Oral Traditions through depicting Indigenous land-based teachings which is at the heart of Indigenous identity, repairing a sense of belonging, a living history passed down through generations of collective ancestry to this present-time, year 2020, a turning point called The Eighth Fire, a time predicted by the Seven Fires where we would come to a fork in the road, both settlers and Indigenous Peoples, and where we would have to choose between the light road or the dark road. It’s at this point where we begin to take a look into our collective past and go beyond the settler narrative and see past the stereotype to our true selves. Philip makes a commitment through community engagement to foster the 94 Calls to Action by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC).
