Event description

Description

As we age it can be difficult to have conversations on topics that affect our health, safety and well-being. Join the new "Tea & Talk for Seniors" series that will provide you the opportunity to start the Conversation!

Join Raeann Ridout from Elder Abuse Ontario and Shauna MacEachern, Seniors at Risk Coodinator for Tea & Talk about:

Power of Attorney for Property:

This workshop will focus on two very important questions about Power of Attorney for Property (POA-P):

Who should I choose as my Attorney for Property? and

What are my responsibilties if I become an Attorney for Property?

A POA-P is an important legal document and there are many things to consider before you ask someone to be your attorney, or before you agree to become an attorney. We will discuss the risks and benefits to both the person granting a POA-P and to the person taking on that responsibility. We will discuss some of the common pitfalls that can lead to allegations of financial abuse and ways to protect yourself. We will discuss the requirements for creating a POA-P and why it is important to think about the future even, if you are in perfect health.

The Tea & Talk Toolkit was devised from the project Building Foundations in Healthy Relationships for Senior Women that was a collaboration with the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre and Elder Abuse Ontario in 2013 and funded by the Canadian Women’s Foundation. The Tool Kit has been adapted provincially by Elder Abuse Ontario and being presented to seniors in Lindsay and area on the fourth Tuesday of each month during 2017. Watch for announcements about upcoming sessions.
