TEAL MB 2016 SAGE Conference
Friday, 21 October 2016 from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM (CDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
The TEAL Manitoba SAGE Conference is the largest annual professional learning event in Manitoba for educators of students learning English as an additional language--specialist teachers, K-12 classroom teachers, Resource and Learning Support teachers, and others interested in EAL learning in the educational setting.
This year, we are fortunate to have Cristina Sanchez-Lopez work with us on the topic of "Helping Students Show What They Know Across the Curriculum". Ms. Sanchez-Lopez is an education specialist at the Illinois Resource Center (IRC) in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She collaborates with educators in the United States and Canada on supporting English Language Learners, middle school mathematics, literacy across the content areas, multilingual education, and engaging parents.
Participants in this year's conference will:
- Experience simulations for the stages of acquiring a new language
- Practice strategies to promote oral academic language and vocabulary development for students with a range of English language proficiency levels
- View research and resources for supporting students' home languages in the classroom
- Experience lessons that incorporate oral language, reading and writing across the content areas
It is our hope that participants will take home valuable insights and strategies that can be applied to their current teaching situations, especially as it relates to language, literacy, and English Language Learners across the curriculum.
This is a Full-Day conference, and as such, no Half-Day option is available.
Snacks and coffee/tea/drinks will be provided onsite during the conference, but lunch will not be provided. There are a number of options for lunch in the area around the school. Participants are encouraged to bring a travel mug for their coffee or tea.
Parking: Street parking will be available. Parking bans have been lifted for October 21, 2016.
Receipts: Your receipt is the event ticket that will be emailed to you after your registration is completed. Please bring your printed event ticket to the conference.
Refunds: Refunds will be given if requested on or before October 21, 2016 (SAGE Day).
