Team AWHL at the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon - Sunday October 16, 2016
Sun, 16 October 2016, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM EDT
Join Team Assaulted Women's Helpline at this year's Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon!
The Assaulted Women's Helpline offers a toll-free and TTY (Teletypewriter) telephone crisis line helping women in the province of Ontario have experienced any form of abuse. Our critical service allows women to reach out for help free of charge in up to 200 languages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are currently the only organization in Ontario to offer our level of service to women living with abuse.
Your support is critical in helping us achieve our mandate to provide crisis counselling & intervention, information and referrals, and safety planning to our callers each year - survivors of violence, their friends and families, health and legal professionals, community service providers and those calling on their behalf.
There are many barriers that women face preventing them from reaching out for help, or leaving an abusive relationship. Fear, shame, income, cultural or familial pressures, immigration status and countless other realities make it difficult or sometimes impossible for a woman to leave safely.
The Assaulted Women's Helpline is an essential first point of contact for women especially:
In communities without women's shelters or other services
For women who would not traditionally access shelters
For non-English language callers
For TTY callers, for the deaf and hard of hearing
Register with Team AWHL and we'll waive your registration fee for a minimum fundraising commitment! We also have some amazing prizes for our top pledge raisers! The minimum commitment for each event is as follows:
5K — $100
Half Marathon — $150
Marathon — $200
As one of our most important fundraisers of the year, please consider joining Team Assaulted Women's Helpline and help us raise awareness and the critical funds needed to help more women.
