Description

In this talk Derek Roy, a Data Science co-op student at IBM, will speak on an emerging AI model called a GAN - Generative Adversarial Network. With applications in photo/video generation, medical detection, fashion design, forensics, and much more, this AI network has many future possibilities. This talk will explore what a GAN is, how it is used, and the amazing things researchers are doing with them right now. Learn about images being turned in 3D models, drawings transformed into photos, new product generation, and other fascinating potential applications. Hope to see you there!

Presenter: Derek Roy

Derek Roy is an AI and Data Science co-op student with IBM. Derek works with AI and machine learning every day from Data Science projects analyzing data sets and building models, to creating applications that run emotion and sentiment analysis on laptops. Part of the winning team for the Canadian IBM Internal hackathon in Cognitive and AI systems, Derek has a Bachelor's of Science in Audio Production from the Art Institute of California-San Diego, and is currently in his last year of a Bachelor's of Science in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University. He is currently working towards a certification in the AWS Big Data Specialty while finishing his co-op. Aside from tech, he is passionate about Latin dance, rock climbing, and is an active member of Toastmasters International.
