About this Event

What is TEDxYouth@VictoriaPark?

TEDxYouth@VictoriaPark is a non-profit, student run event with the mission to provide youth the opportunity to vocalize their novel and innovative ideas on a large public platform. Hosted at Ross Glen Hall located in Calgary, Alberta, on May 25th, 2019, TEDxYouth@VictoriaPark is focused on bringing our community together through the spread of ideas and knowledge. Working under this year’s theme, “Shifting Equilibrium: A Journey Into The Unknown”, TEDxYouth@VictoriaPark is aimed towards developing and promoting unique ideas from youth in Calgary and area.

Meet our speakers for 2019!

  • Aishwarya Khanduja - Social innovation allows us to bridge gaps in accessibility when it comes to first generation students. There isn't a lack of support or resources, it's the lack of of knowledge or access to those resources that is the issue that should be looked into.
  • Jesse Lee - Simple ideas have led to developing groundbreaking technologies and/or analytical methods in the sciences. Ice Nucleation is an example of innovative applications to science.
  • Muna Adam - There is not a lack of women in the STEM industry, there is a lack of women in higher leadership roles. The absence of women in upper-level roles impacts how women and girls growing up see the STEM industry.
  • Madison Savilow - The carbon utilization industry is spurring a movement towards climate change. Climate change is definitely real and is a seemingly unstoppable force - so what we can do about it?
  • Catharine Bowman - Intertwining the disease of Lymphedema to underline 5 core values that young innovators should consider and/or be aware of.
  • Zeel Patel - Age is not a barrier to success, especially when it comes to the development of businesses. Youth can still have a monolithic impact on society, regardless of age.
  • Nisha John - Stepping outside of the comfort zone; how can we adapt and change to various environments and use that to push the boundaries of our comfort zones.
  • Claire Du - Artificial intelligence (AI) education should be implemented into the high school curriculum. Soon we will have an AI-powered future. So, how has AI education becomes increasingly important as automation progresses?
