Description

Teen Textile Camp | Caroline Forde
August 21 & 22 | 4:00pm – 7:00pm
General $120+gst | Member $108+gst
all materials included | Ages 10 - 17

Join textile artist and surface designer Caroline Forde for textile activities that will explore friendly and fun techniques for dying and working with a variety of fabrics. The camp will explore natural dyes, indigo, shibori, sashiko stitching, eco printing and embroidery. Kids will learn some light textile history while exploring these surface design techniques. The outcome of this workshop will result in a variety of personal textile projects and a sample book, encouraging further explorations.

Shibori & Sashiko: Japenese dyeing technique that involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it. This causes the folds to act as a resist to the dyes. Think of it as the traditional and more in-depth version of tie dying.

Eco Printing: process of applying plants directly onto natural fibres to dye the fabric in specific areas for interesting shapes and designs.
