Telling Your Story - Fall Memoir Writing Workshop
Mon, 16 October 2017, 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM PDT
Is it time to put your stories on paper? This workshop, led by Marva K. Blackmore, a well-known storyteller, writer, editor, and workshop leader, will help guide you through the process of constructing your stories from your favorite and most vivid memories. Using the time-honored techniques used by storytellers around the world, Marva will help you unleash those stories and put them on paper.
This is a six-week workshop that takes place on consecutive Mondays (October 16, 23, 30, November 6, 13, & 20) from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. The registration fee covers all six Mondays and all materials including a copy of Marva's book, Telling Your Story: A Guide to Writing Your Memoir Stories. All you bring is a pen or a pencil.
Marva has told stories across Canada and internationally on stage, at festivals, in coffee houses, and at the National Arts Center in Ottawa. She delights her audiences with her stories, both personal and folk tales. She has learned from the folk tales how to construct stories that are interesting and draw the reader into the tale. And now she will show you how to apply those techniques to your stories. She has also spent the last few years helping people write and edit their memoirs and brings that experience to this workshop. She is also a certified Guided Autobiography Instructor.
But first, she will help you draw those stories from within yourself and organize them to create your own memoir. This will be six weeks well spent and at the end of it, if you participate and do the work, you should be well on your way to creating your own memoir.
Following the advice of Mark Twain, "The secret of getting ahead is getting started." Now is the time to get started.
Space is limited and early registration is advised.
