Description

This course is designed for Canadian frontline police officers and other first responders. The objective of the course is to produce an officer who has a basic understanding of terrorism and what to look for during routine stops or casual conversation during community contact programs. The course covers the origins and evolution of modern terrorism, terrorist motivation and strategies, the tactics, targets, and weaponry of terrorists who pose a threat to Canada, and indications and warning signs.

Presenters are subject matter experts in the area of terrorism. They include:

Lt. Colonel Donald W Corbett, a retired Military Engineer the Deputy Commander/Chief of EOD for the CF Counter IED Task Force. He has worked closely with Canada's NATO Allies and Canadian Police Services primarily in the areas of Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Counter IED.

Colonel (Retd) Patrick D. R. Crandell who has 36 years experience in Intelligence and Security at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels. From 2001 to 2004, he was the Canadian Defence Attaché in Indonesia where his focus was terrorism.

Mr. Phil Gurski is President of Borealis Threat and Risk Consulting and a former strategic analyst at CSIS. He is the author of “The Threat from Within: Recognizing Al Qaeda-inspired Radicalization and Terrorism in the West” (Rowman and Littlefield).

Dr. G. Davidson (Tim) Smith is a former CSIS Counter-Terrorism analyst and holds a PhD in International Relations with a specialty in counter-terrorism. He is the author of “Combating Terrorism” (Taylor and Francis Ltd.).

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

The registration is open to officers of recognized police agencies. Participants will be asked to provide identification.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There are no buses or shuttles to the event. There is parking available
