Event Details

THIS IS A TEST. NOT A REAL RETREAT.

AWARENESS, INSIGHT & LIBERATION

This seven night retreat is suitable for both new and experienced meditators and will integrate the precise meditation instructions of Mahasi Sayadaw with the practical awareness-oriented guidance of Sayadaw U Tejaniya, both highly skilled monastic teachers from Burma. Steve will offer a clear path for developing clarity of awareness with each arising moment. This leads to stability of mind and the insightful knowledge of liberation. Relaxed, persevering continuity of mindfulness allows us to recognize each moment’s experience, and leads to insightful understanding of the natural order of all things. Such knowledge weakens deeply conditioned habits of mind that cause unhappiness, and strengthens conditions for an enduring sense of well-being. Liberation is the mind released from mental states that result in suffering to oneself and others. People of all walks of life are warmly welcome.

Steve Armstrong

Steve Armstrong has studied the dhamma and practiced
insight meditation since 1975. He has been leading meditation
retreats internationally since 1990. As a monk in
Burma for 5 years he undertook intensive practice at the
Mahasi Meditation Center in Yangon under the guidance of
Sayadaw U Pandita. He continues his practice of “mindfulness
of mind” with Sayadaw U Tejaniya and now integrates
the teachings of these two traditions. Steve co-founded the
Vipassana Metta Foundation’s dhamma sanctuary and hermitage on Maui. He
also directs the Burma Schools Project. To date (2016), they have built or renovated
100 schools, 5 clinics and 5 nunneries in Burma. In 2000, Steve initiated a
project to develop and lead a team of current and former Burmese and Western
monastics well practiced in the Mah¯asi Sayadaw tradition of vipassana, to translate,
edit and publish Mah¯asi Sayadaw’s Manual of Insight in English. Wisdom
Publications published this authoritative and comprehensive meditation manual
in May, 2016.
