Event description
Learn the basics of sewing and how to use a domestic and industrial sewing machine and serger.

About this event

This class is designed for those that are experienced sewers and would like to expand their knowledge with other machines used in textiles. This class will include an in-depth coverage of the serger and will introduce the use of an industrial walking foot machine, and industrial straight stitch machine.

Techniques covered in this class include:

  • Balanced Four-Thread Serging
  • Balanced Three-Thread Serging
  • Soft Gathering with a Serger
  • Decorative Stitching with a serger including Flatlock Topstitching and creating rolled edges
  • Introduction to the Industrial Walking Foot
  • Introduction to the Industrial Straight Stitch

Please note, due to COVID-19, we have implemented the following policies:

  • Following public health orders, as of September 13th, all participants will be required to have a vaccine passport in order to attend this class.
  • It is recommended that everyone sanitize their hands upon entering the building.

  • Non-medical masks must be worn for the duration of the class.  Everyone will be required to bring their own masks.

Is there an age limit to enter the event?

The minimum age for participants is 13 years old with a participating guardian or 18 otherwise.

What are my parking options at MakerLabs?

MakerLabs' parking lot is located on the east side of the building on the corner of Hawks Avenue and East Cordova Street.

Can I sign up for the member rate?

If you sign up for a membership on the day of the class, you'll receive a refund for the difference between the general and membership class price.

How do I cancel or reschedule my class?

Refunds (minus Eventbrite fees), credits for future classes and orientations, or transferring a ticket to a future date, will only be provided if we are notified by email to hello@makerlabs.com at least 24 hours in advance of the class. For cancellation less than 24 hours before the class, we do not provide a refund, but we do offer a 50% credit towards a future class or orientation. No refunds or credits will be provided for no shows. If transferring a ticket to a future class date, students may only transfer their ticket once before forfeiting their original ticket, even if providing more than 24 hours notice.

What happens if I show up late?

Please arrive 15 minutes before the schedule start of the class so that it can start on time. Attendees arriving more than 5 minutes late will not be allowed in the class.
