Textiles & Map-Making
Event Information
Description
We'll be exploring map-making with a variety of different materials and applications. We'll talk a bit about different types of maps and ways of "mapping" ...both in terms of the familiar experiences that most of us have had with maps, and also broadening that to include some maybe less familiar and creative approaches to creating our own maps.
Maybe we want to record what we've done, where we've been...where we want to go. Or maybe our map will be more about seeing what unfolds while we ponder a certain relationship in our lives, or experiences we've had. Or maybe it's a map to a treasure, or to the corner store. We'll have the opportunity to explore several different materials, processes, and conversations around maps - and how we move around, negotiate space, and document all of that.
PUNCH CARDS
If you have purchased a 5-workshop bundle (punch card) please use your personal code when registering which will make pre-registration free for each workshop that you're attending while your "punch card" is still valid. Purchasing a punch card will give you a discounted rate ($175/5 workshops), see my website at www.heyshauna.com/art-therapy for more details.
ART THERAPY
Art therapy is the intentional use of art-making to create an opportunity to express and better understand our emotions and our needs, and to create and nurture balance and well-being, within a space that is facilitated by an art therapist. It is grounded in the belief that creative process and self-expression help us to find ways to cope, to manage stress, depression, anxiety, mental health issues and a myriad of other un-eases that trip us up in our daily lives. It gives us the space and opportunity to express ourselves without judgement or expectation.
MORE INFO
Everyone is welcome at my workshops, and you needn’t have ANY experience with art or art materials to attend.
I say everyone in a broad sense …though it is worth noting that my workshops are for adults, and not children. If you’d like to book a special family or mixed-age group I’m happy to design something for you, let’s chat!
Groups are small, usually 5 people. They are also generous, warm, and supportive. We sit and create together for a couple of hours – it’s easily among my favourite things.
In all of my workshops, our focus is on exploring different art materials in lots of different ways …and noticing how those different materials and processes make us feel. And while I am there for any technical assistance you may need, our goal is not to focus on technical skill…but instead on curiosity.
REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION
REGISTRATION: Pre-registration is required before attending a workshop as the groups are small.
CANCELLATION: You have up to 3 days prior to the workshop date to receive a full refund, though registration IS transferrable if you’d like to gift your spot to someone – please just let me know in advance. ALSO, I’m a reasonable person, if you find yourself unable to attend and the thought of losing your registration fee is at all debilitating, please get in touch with me.
