And that’s a wrap! Another busy year is coming to a close and we’d like to celebrate the end of 2022 with you! Join three of Ottawa’s communications associations - the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Ottawa, Women in Communications and Technology - National Capital Region (WCT-NCR), and the Canadian Public Relations Society (CRPS) Ottawa-Gatineau Chapter for our holiday mixer, and enjoy an evening of food, drink and networking.

Be inspired by keynote remarks from Jennifer Stewart, President and Founder of the public relations firm Syntax Strategic, and Joan Wright, lead advisor at the Privy Council Office on career development initiatives to recruit and advance BIPOC communicators across the federal government. We would also like to take this opportunity to give back to our community by hosting a silent auction with proceeds going to the Ottawa Food Bank.

Your entry ticket includes hors d’oeuvres, one drink ticket, and one entry to the door prize draw! There will also be a cash bar available.

Jennifer Stewart, President and CEO of Syntax Strategic

As President and Founder of Syntax Strategic, Jennifer is an accomplished leader in Canadian business, government, and public affairs. She is renowned as an expert in this field, often being called upon by national media for commentary. Additionally, Jennifer has twice been named one of the “Top 25 People in the Capital” by Ottawa Life Magazine, one of Ottawa’s “Top Forty Under Forty” by the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and was a finalist for Ottawa’s “Established Female Entrepreneur of the Year.” Jennifer has actively taken on many business and community affairs roles, including President and CEO of the Canadian Energy Marketers Association (CEMA), Chair of the Board of the Canadian Transportation Alliance (CTA), Co-Host and Co-Founder of The Honest Talk podcast, Chair of the Village of Carp Business Improvement Association (City of Ottawa), Board Member of the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa Foundation, Member of the Board of Trustees for The Women in Technology Scholarship of Willis College, and Member of the Leadership Council of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

Joan Wright, Senior Public Affairs Advisor, Government of Canada

A seasoned communications strategist, Joan Wright’s professional mantra is, “People and Partnerships – PR the Wright Way!” Joan is currently working at the Communications Community Office at the Privy Council Office. She is the lead advisor on a Career Development Initiative to recruit and advance the careers of Black, Indigenous and Racialized communicators across the Government of Canada. The project is guided by the Clerk’s Call to Action on Anti-Racism, Equity, and Inclusion in the Federal Public Service. She is also an instructor at the School of Journalism at Carleton University where she teaches strategic communications to the 4th year students.

Joan is a community leader who approaches all volunteer roles with gravitas leavened by laughter! She has served as president of the Algonquin College Students’ Association; president of the Canadian Public Relations Society, Ottawa-Gatineau chapter; president of the Westcliffe Estates Community Association, and co-chair of her son’s School Council at the Ottawa Carleton Virtual School. In addition, she has volunteered with the Ottawa chapters of Women in Communications and Technology and Equal Voice. Joan is currently establishing a professional development network to support the careers of BIPOC leaders working in communications, policy and politics. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, and two diplomas from Algonquin College in Television Broadcasting and Public Relations. Including Ottawa, she has over 25 years work experience in a variety of geographical locations, including London, England, the Cayman Islands, and New York City.
