Event description

Description

The 17th Annual Labour Day Intensive, Embodiment: Body-Mind Psychotherapy with Susan Aposhyan

Welcome to the BMP Embodiment Practice community of Vancouver. We come together to support each other with embodiment and presence, compassion and healing, meditation and relationship. These annual workshops have a mixture of new people and community members who attend again and again to deepen their practice.

Embodiment Practice is a simple practice that involves feeling sensations in your body in the present moment and giving them permission to move, breathe, rest, sound, speak, however they want to. As with any practice, it requires developing your attention span, in this case to the present moment and the sensations in your body. Since we are also working with movement and sound, this might invite some intensity in you or in those practicing around you. We attempt to both protect each other from overwhelm and to give everyone freedom to express themselves in a safe space.

Body-Mind Psychotherapy (BMP) is a somatic-cognitive approach to psychotherapy, developed by Susan Aposhyan, uniquely focused on physiology, neuroscience, and early motor development. A wide range of BMP trainees, including psychotherapists, teachers, organizational consultants, nurses,M.D.'s, body workers, physical trainers, yoga teachers, and many more, have found training in this work to be a deeply satisfying experience both professionally and personally. Everyone is welcome.

In this BMP Labour Day Intensive, you will have the opportunity to cultivate a deep level of embodiment, develop the ability to witness and facilitate others based in a holistic understanding of their psychophysical process, and deepen your experiential understanding of mindfulness and compassion. The training begins with the practice of embodiment, and includes embodied meditation, experiential anatomy, biomechanics, developmental movement, as well as an application of these studies to family systems, object relations, birth, death, spirituality, sexuality, and trauma.

Specific knowledge & skills might include*:
• Deeper, more articulate experience of your own bodily state and presence;
• Cognitive and experiential knowledge of motor development;
• Understanding of the relationship between body systems, early motor development and emotional patterns;
• Ability to assess motor development and the moment to moment state of their body systems;
• Facilitation tools of body systems and developmental actions to support personal development;
• Ability to assess and facilitate cellular-emotional processes.

*Jane Ellison ( boing@janeellisonclasses.com ) offers group embodiment practice introductory sessions each spring in Vancouver. The next will be Saturday May 18 , 3:00-5:30.
