Event description

Description

Gone are the days of having a week or more to develop briefing material. In today’s world, information is expected quickly and accurately, often leaving public servants with only a matter of hours to develop their notes.

The “2-Hour Briefing Note” will teach you how to maximize your time, properly organize your information, and impress senior management with a well-crafted briefing note. Taught by an award-winning journalist with more than a decade of experience with the federal government, this workshop gives you the tools and strategies that you need to do an effective job in today’s public service.

This workshop uses both theory and practical exercises to help you improve your briefing skills. You will learn how to deliver the information that senior management needs, in a manner that is concise, clear and relevant.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  1. Develop confidence in their writing skills.
  2. Understand the different types of briefing notes and their respective roles.
  3. Be able to identify audience and needs.
  4. Know the parts of a briefing note and how to use them.
  5. Have strategies for delivering clear, concise briefing materials.
  6. Be able to write a briefing note in only two hours.

Who should take this workshop?

This course is designed for public servants who want to improve their briefing skills. This includes those who are moving into policy or program positions that require significant briefings or those who have extensive briefing experience, but want to “brush up” their skills. These may be program officers, policy analysts, managers, or anyone who is called on to produce effective briefing notes at work.
