Event description
This year's KlezKids Program (ages 4-12) has been designed to keep the children engaged with short online & offline activities

About this Event

Tuesday-Friday, August 25-28th:

This year's KlezKids Program (ages 4-12) has been designed to keep children engaged with short online and offline activities, frequent movement, and screen breaks.

The KlezKids Program happens everyday in periods AM2 and PM2. Come to one, or come to them all! If you register for a KlezKids Pass that includes both AM2 and PM2 periods for all four days of the festival (Tuesday-Friday).

We've also included a few recommendations for kid-friendly programming outside of those periods.

AM2: 11:15-12:30 PM EDT (Included with the KlezKids Pass)

Yiddish Home Room!

A short get-together for friends old and new to begin the day with Yiddish language, jokes and riddles, and games. This includes:

Band: The children will learn a simple tune, breaking into smaller groups for coaching with leading instrumentalists from around the world from the KlezKanada faculty.

Craft: The children will collaborate to make a global patchwork quilt, make traditional Jewish symbols from recycled materials, design challah covers, and make nature sculptures.

Singing: The children will learn a simple Yiddish song from a veteran from the Yiddish singing world.

Storytelling: with renowned Yiddish storytellers and long-term friends of the children’s program.

PM2: 3:45-5:00 PM EDT (Included in the KlezKids Pass)

Afternoon Activities!

In this period, we'll engage in a variety of activities, including:

Musical Theater with Puppets: the children will bring a Yiddish story to life with home-made “upcycled” puppets and live musical accompaniment, whilst learning a little Yiddish.

Language & Games, including "Shloyme Says," Yiddish charades, and basic Yiddish for greeting and eating.

Klick-klock Dance!: Using dance, clowning, and physical theatre the children will choreograph their own video dances.Family Band: In this first-of-its-kind ensemble, families from across the globe will make a piece together as the tune moves from home to home. Everyone welcome!Cooking: Simple dishes like bagel pizzas and “Chagall toast”will be taught by children and Bubbes in turn, with a taste of Yiddish language thrown in. On Friday we will make challah.
