The What

The Research and Development Frontiers Institute is proud to present the third annual Canada-China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum for 2019! RDFI will once again work in collaboration with Montreal NewTech to bring you some of the best presentations and discussions around future technologies between China and Canada for the year.

The Format

The CCIEF has 2 major components: The daytime conference and an evening Demo Night.

The conference is comprised of presentations from governments, enterprises, venture capitals and professors. Topics include AI, Embryo Gene Editing, and Clean Tech from some of the best and brightest in the industry.

The Demo Night will be hosted by Montreal NewTech where 8 phenomenal startups will take to the stage to present their projects and products in an effort to win a round trip flight to China to meet and visit with:

  • 20+ venture capitalists
  • 5+ Science Parks/Innovation Centers
  • Roadshow in 4 major cities
  • 1 hour of consulting service in regards to exploring the Chinese market

The Why

Created with Entrepreneurs as the cornerstone of its raison d’être, CCIEF’s mission is to support researchers and entrepreneurs by fostering an environment that promotes interaction and cooperation between Chinese and Canadian researchers and entrepreneurs.

As such, CCIEF champions the link between the academic community, entrepreneurial community and corporate partners to achieve positive impacts in those ecosystems, and be the catalyst for international initiatives, industry breakthroughs, and hundreds of projects and collaborations between China and Canada.

We, at CCIEF, understand our responsibilities as frontrunners in the Chinese-Canadian Community to spearhead the environment rich in creativity and innovation. Which is why, CCIEF leverages its diverse network and expertise in the Chinese and Canadian Entrepreneurial Ecosystem to assist, guide, facilitate, and promote exchanges between China and Canada:

  • Assist Canadian/Chinese entrepreneurs to establish and grow their businesses in China/Canada’s existing and emerging markets.
  • Guide Entrepreneurs to exploit new opportunities and trends, adapt to changing business landscapes.
  • Facilitate connection and interaction between entrepreneurs, incubators and investors.
  • Provide solutions to the unique challenges entrepreneurs face by introducing relevant Subject Matter Experts (industry leaders, academics, and government officials).
  • Promote the collaboration between industry professionals and academics to push the boundaries of scientific research and innovation.

The Who

Keynote Speakers

Thomas Park

As the VP of Strategy & Initiatives, Thomas is responsible for BDC’s strategic direction, planning, processes, and digital transformation. His extensive previous experience includes having managed BDC Capital's Operations & Strategy, served as Senior Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, and worked as Program Officer with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. To top it all off, in 2017, Thomas was recognized as one of the country’s outstanding young leaders in Canada’s Top 40 under 40.

Thomas currently sits on McGill University’s Global Health Programs International Advisory Board and is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at Ryerson University’s Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science.

Guangli Wang

Guangli Wang is President of Zhongguancun Science Centre Inc., which is the largest science park in China and is often dubbed as China’s Silicon Valley. He is responsible for the management of the office based in Markham with services reaching to all major innovative cities across Canada. He holds a Master’s degree in Civil and Commercial Law and a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Renmin University of China. In addition to his current triumphs, he has previously worked as manager of the Marketing and Business Development Department for local governments in China and Deloitte China.
