Event description
The Association of Graduate Students in the Biological Sciences (AGSBS) is hosting the 46th Annual Biology Symposium on April 6th, 2020.

About this Event

The Association of Graduate Students in Biological Sciences (AGSBS) is a non-profit, student-propelled, organization representing Masters and Doctoral students in the Biology Department at York University. Our focus is to enhance graduate student experiences by uniting science with recreation and providing the appropriate platform to do so. As a part of this initiative, we are proud to continue our tradition of inviting world renowned scientists to present their most recent research and discoveries at this year’s symposium.

To honour this year’s theme, From Local to Global: Exploring the Vast Diversity between Biological Environments, we have invited three prestigious speakers from the University of Toronto and Wilfrid Laurier University to showcase their research. This conference will feature talks from Dr. Keiko Yoshioka from the University of Toronto, Dr. Heather E. McFarlane from the University of Toronto and Dr. Jordan Musetta-Lambert from Wilfrid Laurier University. We will also have talks from graduate students and a poster session. One graduate student talk and one poster entry will win the “People’s Choice” Award. All poster entries will be judged by a qualified panel and first, second and third place winners will receive a generous prize courtesy of the AGSBS Symposium Committee and sponsors. Lunch will be provided for all participants and a free professional headshot session will take place during lunch - registration required. The afternoon will consist of workshops that explore science careers in and out of academia and a mental health training session. This will be followed by our social event which will provide an opportunity for students to interact with other colleagues, different faculty members and expand their network outside of York.

This event is meant to engage graduate and undergraduate students in discussions of current research topics in biology and academic careers but also to help develop personal and professional skills. We would like to cordially invite you to attend the 46th Annual AGSBS Biology Symposium!
