Event description

Description

The Ancaster Horticultural Society holds its meeting on Tuesday September 19th, 2017. The Society welcomes author and award-winning reporter Jon Wells and his presentation is, "Jon's Journey".

Jon Wells has been a reporter at The Hamilton Spectator for 20 years. He has won numerous national & provincial awards for his journalism and he has written seven books. Born in Montreal and raised in London, Ontario, Jon received a degree in political science from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters in Journalism degree from Carleton University, Ottawa. "Jon's Journey", which is a detailed account of his hike, canoe and bike expedition, is intended to educate us about the adventure that lies all around the greater City of Hamilton... "By his own admission, and contrary to all appearances, he’s not exactly the rugged outdoors type. Nonetheless, he recently circumnavigated Hamilton on what we are calling a pioneer’s journey"... writes Paul Berton, editor-in-chief, in his article entitled, "A Unique Journalistic Journey - Jon Wells did more than explore Hamilton. He explored a new way of storytelling" in the June 11, 2011 edition of the Hamilton Spectator. For this pioneering storytelling, Jon Wells won a Tourism Hamilton Award as well as an Ontario Newspaper Award. And yes, as you may have guessed, Jon Wells lives in Hamilton, Ont.
