Event description

Description

Join for an inspiring class on the art of floral bundle dyeing. This fun and aesthetically pleasing workshop will take you on the artful approach to creating lovely patterns on fiber by using flowers, and other natural materials you can find in your home and garden. No previous experience is necessary as this is an introductory course.

We will begin by learning about different fibre and how they interact with natural colour, and how to treat your fabric to take on the dye. We will then dive into exploration by creating our own personalized sample swatches. After viewing our results each participant will create a silk scarf of his or her own creation.

All materials will be provided along with a list of resources and books for further exploration for your natural dye journey.

Audience: This workshop is suitable for adults and teenager beginners .

Supplies: All supplies are included in the workshop.

You may also have fun bringing foliage from your garden or from a special Bouquet!

Artist/Instructor/Guide

Irene Rasetti spent several years in Milan, Italy where she received a diploma in Fashion Design. She won an internship at Genny, and went on to work for various design houses including Gianfranco Ferre and Gianni Versace. After a decade of working in fashion, she moved back to Canada and continued her exploration with fashion through varying degrees. She co-owned a Canadian design focused, women’s retail store for six years where she also designed and produced an in-house line.

Presently, Irene continues to design and produce a small batch, ethically made clothing line with a key focus on natural dyeing. By using flora, plant matter, and non-toxic metals and minerals, she creates small batch, one-of-a-kind garments and accessories. She also enjoys sharing her knowledge through teaching workshops and classes on eco-printing and bundle dyeing.

There is a certain amount of imperfection, fragility and decay in this process that resonates for her, not only in her work but in her life experience. She is searching for an authentic

engagement with fiber in relation to the human form. Her work eschews perfection or standard notions of beauty. Instead, she endeavors to represent an authentic aspect of our shared experience in a fragile time.
