The BC Societies Act is in force…how are YOU going to proceed?
You know that the new BC Societies Act came into force on November 28, 2016.
You also know that you have until November 28, 2018 to transition your constitution and bylaws onto the Registrar’s new system.
BUT did you know that regardless of when you make the transition and regardless of what your bylaws say, your society must operate in accordance with the new Act NOW?
Do you know which provisions you must adhere to today and which will come into force in 2018?
Do you know which provisions you can vary and which you can’t?
In this workshop, Claire Rettie will:
- walk you through the Act highlighting provisions that your board and senior manager need to know about so your society doesn’t inadvertently contravene the Act;
- go through the provisions where there is flexibility in the Act so that your board can make decisions on what will go into your bylaws to make them work best for your society;
- review areas in the bylaws that the senior manager can address without impinging on board business, and
- offer an approach for developing new bylaws that meets the needs, complexity and capacity of your organization.
