Science should be for everyone, so we created The Beautiful Mind to help make neuroscience more accessible.

This TEDx-style event will feature three training researchers studying the brain at the UVic Division of Medical Sciences: Fernando González Ibáñez, Haley Vecchiarelli, and Adriano Maia Chaves Filho.

Through short, fun, and easy-to-understand presentations, they'll introduce you to microglia, our brains' resident immune cells. They'll explain how these immune cells can affect physical and mental health, as well as link to some of society's most pressing issues. Some of our speakers will also share their own experiences of studying these subjects and pursuing a career in neuroscience.

You have the option to attend The Beautiful Mind either in-person at UVic's Medical Sciences Building or online via Zoom. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the Zoom broadcast begins at 6:15 p.m. Presentations will run both in-person and online from 6:30 - 8:20 p.m.

If you attend in-person, you are also invited to stay after the talks for a short Mix & Mingle – complete with coffee, tea, and treats – where you can have a more in-depth conversations with our presenters.

Who knows what you’ll end up learning about?
