The tiny town of Leenane in Galway, Ireland. Early 1990s. Maureen (Cindy Pastorius) lives in a little house, caring for her elderly mother, Mag (Heather Hausmann). They have lived like this for 20 years, and Maureen feels trapped, doomed to watch others live their own lives while she rots away. One day a neighboir, Ray (Colin Zorzit), stops by to invite her to a party. In attendance will be his older brother Pato (Joey Ouellette) - Maureen's crush from long ago. Suddenly there seems to be hope for a future, for romance, for a life beyond caregiving. What happens next leads to both bliss and tragedy in Martin McDonagh's modern fairy tale.
