Description

Seminar 1 (AM): The Benefits of Immediate Protocols for the Partially and Completely Edentulous Patients

Patients are requesting treatment options to replace missing or non-restorable teeth that are predictable, minimally invasive and cost effective. The introduction of novel surgical and prosthodontic protocols, exciting new diagnostic technology, cutting edge implant topography and esthetic prosthetic materials have become available to clinicians at a daunting pace, making it increasingly difficult to make sense of all of this rapidly emerging information. Same-day treatment solutions are an exciting way for clinicians to address commonly cited barriers to care. The concept of “immediacy” in implant prosthodontics is a wonderful example of a patient-friendly solution. Patients can present to our office with a non-restorable tooth that requires extraction and leave our offices a few hours later with the tooth extracted, a dental implant placed and a screw-retained provisional restoration. The idea of immediate implant placement and provisionalization for a full arch continues to be the answer many patients have been looking for. The available protocols, supported by the required infrastructure and logistics, yield a transformative experience for completely edentulous patients and patients with a terminal dentition.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will learn:

  • To understand some of the common barriers to care for patients requiring implant prosthodontic treatment
  • To define the concept of “immediacy” and how partially and completely edentulous patients may benefit from same-day treatment protocols
  • To describe specific implant prosthodontic protocols that embrace the available clinical evidence to provide patient-friendly solutions

Seminar 2 (PM): Implant Prosthodontic Treatment Solutions for Completely Edentulous Patients and Patients with a Terminal Dentition

In 2016, for the first time in our history, the number of Canadians over the age of 65 exceeded the number of children under the age of 14. This remarkable demographic reality is having an impact on practices across our province. This cohort of patients are living longer lives and are seeking treatment solutions that allow them to maintain a vibrant quality of life. The dental community is well positioned to provide these patients with implant prosthodontic treatment solutions that are safe, predictable, cost-effective and that support a healthy lifestyle. Specific patient mediated concerns must be respected to best care for this growing segment of our patient families. At the dawn of a new decade, dentists have the ability to recommend and provide fixed and removable treatment solutions that have the potential to exceed our patients’ expectations.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will learn:

  • To understand the impact of commonly prescribed medications on dental implant failure
  • To become aware of a broad selection of removable implant prosthodontic treatment options
  • To become aware of fixed implant prosthodontic solutions that are provided with an immediate or delayed protocol
  • To anticipate and manage common complications associated with fixed and removable implant prosthodontic solutions
