Event description
This interactive presentation will provide you with knowledge on local Kneehill bird and bat species. Bat House building tutorial optional.

About this Event

With many rural residents looking to increase the appeal of their yards and properties to local bird and bat species, this multi-faceted presentation will provide attendees with the knowledge to understand bird and bat behavior, how to properly assess and deal with wildlife in distress, and how to attract desirable species to their yard or farm.

Myrna Pearman, author of the best-selling Backyard Bird Feeding: An Alberta Guide will give an informative presentation about how to attract backyard birds, what to feed them during the winter, how to deal with challenges, and how to understand and appreciate bird behavior.

Carol Kelly, Executive Director and Founder for the Medicine River Wildlife Centre will provide an introduction to the concept of wildlife rehabilitation and the sorts of animals they typically encounter coming through their center. This presentation will include a talk on common wildlife injuries and how each person can lessen their impact. This presentation will include a visit with Otis the Owl; a live presentation animal as provided by the wildlife centre which will give event attendees an intimate look at the challenges and rewards of wildlife rehabilitation.

Lastly, event attendees will also be given the opportunity to attend an informative session on native bat species and to utilize their carpentry skill and construct their very own bat house, with assistance from Cory Olson of the Alberta Community Bat Program. Please note that given the limited quantity of building kits, 1 ticket will allow both the purchase and opportunity to build 1 Bat House. Limit is 1 Bat House per farm/household. If possible, please bring your own cordless drill if you are attending this workshop.

This interactive workshop will take place from 10:00am - 4:30pm on Saturday, November 30th, 2019 at the Three Hills Community Centre. Registration will begin at 9:30 am with a lunch break scheduled for 12:00 pm. Coffee and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
