Event description

Description

Authentic Movement is an expressive, improvisational movement practice that allows artists to tune in to inner impulses with eyes closed in front of a witness. Movers explore spontaneous gestures, movements or stillness following impulses in present moment. The result is access to a world of creative potential. No previous experience is needed. Everyone moves at their own pace. The space is non-judgmental and supportive. Even inner judges receive help if they begin to take over.

It may feel scary initially as you traverse your inner landscape but the journey is well worth taking, a vital one for artists. There will be time to record your experience and time to share. Privacy is respected. The recording may be writing, drawing, painting or further movement or character development. Remember: There are no mistakes, only discoveries.

Please bring what you need for recording - art supplies, notebooks, etc. Wear comfortable clothes to move in. Bring a light lunch and container of water.

Audrey Jolly MA RP is an interdisciplinary artist. She has studied movement for over 50 years, authentic movement for over 12. She has her Masters in psychology and movement from York University and uses creativity and movement in her body-centered psychotherapy practice in Toronto. Audrey exhibits as a painter and performer yearly and is currently writing a book on creativity and healing.
