With recent privacy breaches involving high profile organizations like Equifax and Uber, privacy law is gaining traction and public attention. Join Marc Yu as he provides an overview of privacy legislation in Alberta and Canada and basic privacy concepts common to these statutes. This presentation will also focus on the new mandatory breach reporting requirements under the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, and what organizations of all sizes can do to mitigate unauthorized access or loss of personal information.

Bio:

Marc Yu is a lawyer from Field LLP in Edmonton practicing in the areas of privacy, insurance, and health law. In his privacy practice, public and private sector clients rely on Marc for issues related to access to information requests, privacy breaches and complaints before the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.

In his other areas of practice, Marc has an expertise in number of areas of insurance law including bodily injury, property loss, subrogated claims, and professional liability. Marc also represents health authorities, hospitals and healthcare workers in the defence of medical malpractice lawsuits, and provides advice to territorial governments on health law policy and legislative drafting.
