From the website:
“Connecting neuroscience, theoretical research, positive psychology and intentional praxis to strengthen and support the social and emotional well-being and capabilities of young children and the adults around them. The purpose of the framework is to support educators, parents and caregivers in understanding the complexities, challenges and opportunities of raising children in today’s world” (connectwithcalm.ca).
Based on the work of Stuart Shanker (2013) and in partnership with the Fraser Valley Child Development Center (https://www.fvcdc.org/the-calm-curriculum), early years educators in the Abbotsford School District have been working to create a common language and practice in the five domains of self-regulation. Since 2013, the Calm kit has been an engaging and practical program to support the goals of SEL in the BC Curriculum (https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/competencies/personal-and-social). In addition, the program complements the goals of oral language and communication in the ELL and ELA curricula.
