Event Details

The Career Foundation's latest initiative to encourage HR best practices is simple: we provide an awesome breakfast at a great venue and present HR resources that are relevant to your team.

Why your company should ensure an HR leader or senior executive attends this The Career Foundation breakfast:

1. Learn about government-funded HR resources and financial incentives.

We’ll show you how to access government-funded HR services and financial incentives to help you with hiring, training and retention. Available at no cost through The Career Foundation.

2. Understand the implications of Bill 132.

Willams HR Law’s guest presentation will focus on the implications of Bill 132 (Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan Act) for HR professionals.

3. Breakfast is on us.

We will provide a warm breakfast for all attendees (not the all too common coffee and muffins).

Phil Richards (Program Manager at The Career Foundation)

Phil Richards has been working at The Career Foundation for over 13 years and currently serves as the Manager of the Scarborough office.  Throughout his working career, Phil has taken on a variety of roles that have given him great perspective of the qualities that make for a successful employee.   This uniquely affords him the ability to interact with all levels of job seekers and employers.  He has demonstrated his own flexibility by taking on roles that include hands on labour, various administrative tasks, successfully leading teams, initiating adoption of technology to improve efficiencies, and speaking at various engagements. While he may not be a Jack-of-all-trades, he is a Phil-of-many-perspectives.

Joel Smith (Lawyer at Williams HR Law)

Joel Smith is a lawyer with Williams HR Law, where he practices management-side labour, employment and human rights law. He provides advice and representation to employers on a broad range of issues including employment contracts, employment standards, wrongful dismissal litigation, human rights and accommodation, grievance arbitrations, labour board proceedings, privacy and workplace safety and insurance matters. Joel also conducts workplace investigations as part of his practice. Joel has appeared before various adjudicative decision makers including labour arbitrators, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. Prior to joining the firm, Joel articled with a prominent management-side labour and employment boutique firm in Toronto. Joel obtained his J.D. degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
