The Children are Watching: A Self-Reg Lens on Today's Global Issues

The tumultuous year 2020 has seen parents and educators not only juggling and struggling to adapt to new realities, but also left them pondering how best to talk to children about global issues and social justice. In this half-day event, Stuart Shanker and Susan Hopkins of Self-Reg Global & The MEHRIT Centre will explore and address these challenges through the lens of Shanker Self-Reg®.

“The key to a JUST SOCIETY lies in the manner in which it self-regulates,” according to Dr. Stuart Shanker. But what does Dr. Shanker mean by “self-regulation” and what does it look like, sound like, and feel like at a societal level? How do we support children to develop the understanding of their roles in a JUST SOCIETY that values empathy, equity, unity, and wellbeing for all?

Dr. Shanker will kick things off with a compelling and inspirational keynote that shows how neuroscience can inform the ways we encourage children to become engaged in building a JUST SOCIETY. In the second half Dr. Hopkins will anchor a full-circle session that will situate Dr. Shanker’s lessons within the context of the 5 practices of Self-Reg and offer practical applications that educators and parents can use as we prepare for a fresh new year in 2021.

• 9:00 - 9:15 - Welcome
• 9:15 - 10:30 - Keynote with Dr. Stuart Shanker

• 10:45 - 12:00 - Workshop with Dr. Susan Hopkins

Access to live event and recording:

Life can be unpredictable at times and we completely understand that attending a live event during the workweek is something we can't all commit to. So, whether you can join us live on November 27th or would like to join in at a time that better suits you, we have you covered. We do encourage you to join live to get the full experience and engage in the interactive portions of the workshop but all those who sign up for this workshop will be able to view the material until the end of December 2020.

Refunds:

Refund requests can be directed to: events@self-reg.ca. Refunds will be allocated in the following manner:

• Up to 48hrs before the event start - 95% refund (Self-Reg Global will retain 5% to cover admin and payment processing fees).
• After the event - Once the post-event recording access information has been issued, refunds will be decided on a case by case basis.
