Below is additional information

The Concept
The event is designed specifically for people who have, or are experiencing emotional distress and their related symptoms which includes depression , addictive behaviours and anxiety and for those who live with , love or work with the sufferer. The core of the evening will showcase the narratives of 2-3 select persons (“speakers”), who will share their experience and their journey to recovery. The purpose behind this format is to:
- Normalize the experience of real emotional distress and help reduce the stigma attached to it and other mental health challenges by providing an open, and supportive forum for personal expression.
- Provide a welcoming “community” for participants and organizers to engage and interact with each other at the event.
- Offer an “invitation to action” opportunity at the event for those who would like to explore a more active step in their recovery and personal development. This will occur via a 3-month online support/coaching small group format with no more than 6 to 8 persons per group.
At no point will any speaker be talking as an authority on what others must do to get better, instead they will use “I” language when drawing conclusions as to what worked for them. There will be ample time allotted for audience questions after each presentation.
In addition to the individual stories, there will be thought provoking and engaging questions for audience members to reflect upon, facilitated by the lead organizer, Barry Samson, a Coach, depression survivor, and mental health advocate.
The events are a product of Barry’s personal mission to bring something new and invigorating to those who suffer and to those who live with or work with the sufferer . An interesting note and one that provides momentum to such events is that by far the majority of the people asked to present their story have agreed to . What does this say about our stories and our impulse to tell them ? What is it that is buried in our stories that has people revealing some of their most private and scary moments to rooms of strangers ? And equally important , why are people who suffer drawn to hear such stories ?
