Description
Free Parent Info Session for all parents of District 43 students (your children in Grades 10/11/12 are welcome to attend with you but you must register them as well). All parents regardless of your children's age are encouraged to attend. Due to popular demand this event sold out last year.
Online registration is required for everyone attending.
Topics Covered:
- How social media apps facilitate sexual exploitation & sextortion
- How exploiters are grooming our children & youth, online, & ways to keep safe
- Image sharing & sexting; an issue in every school
- Recent trends in peer to peer exploitation
- TCO will be presenting pieces from their grade 4-12 workshops
Guest Speakers - Children of the Street Society (TCO):
- Tiana Sharifi (Program Director): Utilizing her educational background in psychology and counselling, Tiana has spent many years involving herself with vulnerable populations; specifically, victims of human trafficking and youth at risk of sexual exploitation.
- Camilla Ho (Workshop Facilitator): Camilla has experience working with children and youth across Metro Vancouver, most recently as a Tutor and Research Assistant at Friends of Simon, and as a Summer Intern at Eastside Family Place Society, where she organized and coordinated interactive and educational activities.
- Alejandro Lazzari (Workshop Facilitator): Alejandro has been tutoring youth with learning differences for the last two years. He strives to make his teaching methods as interactive and multisensory as possible.
Doors open at 6:30pm, session runs from 7:00-8:30pm.
