The second annual Explorers Museum Film Festival will once again take place at museum headquarters, Charleville Castle in Tullamore, Ireland. The three-day festival will take place Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6, 2015. This year's theme is "Explore Canada" and all films screened are made by or feature some of Canada's "Greatest Explorers" according to a recent issue of Canadian Geographic Magazine. The films will showcase the Canadian Arctic, both geographically and culturally, as well as a record-setting descent into an active volcano. The highlight of the festival this year will be the European premiere of On the Trail of the Far Fur Country, a restoration project of Chris and Kevin Nikkel showcasing salvaged and restored footage from the first documentary film ever made, The Romance of the Far Fur Country, made three years before Nanook of the North. The festival will also feature a panel involving the attending filmmakers giving audience members a rare opportunity to dialogue with these adventurous and talented Canadian explorer-filmmakers. Special medals will be handed out to winning filmmakers on the last day of the festival at our awards ceremony.
