The Future of Forests
Event Information
About this Event
The Ontario government and forestry industry often hail logging practices in the province as world-renowned for sustainability--however, closer inspections reveal not all is well in the woods. This webinar will explore various conservation and consultation concerns with current forestry practices and planning that expose cracks in the province's reputation for sustainability. The fate of public forests plays a huge role in how we confront the advancing risks from climate change and biodiversity loss. It is important that we all take an interest in how these vital resources are managed and who gets a say.
Topics will include:
Government regulation and de-regulation of commercial forestry
The role of protected places and conservation areas in forest sustainability
Old growth and logging
Logging roads and deforestation
Problems with the public and Indigenous consultation process in Forest Management Planning
Presenters from:
Ontario Nature
Wildlands League
