Presentation:

So you’ve had “the talk” with your kids, but now there is a new discussion to have. It’s equally difficult and you may not have all the answers to your kids’ questions, but I am here to help you start the Media conversation. Social Media is everywhere; it’s in our homes and schools. Some of us parents are new to this digital world while the younger generation seem to be digital wizzes. To help close this gap we need skills to Manage, Examine, Decode, Identify, and Act appropriately online. In this presentation, parents will learn how to assist their children in connecting and interacting safely and positively online.

About Katie: Katie Cole is a Media Studies and Health and Physical Education teacher at Medway High School in Arva with the Thames Valley District School Board. She is a member of the Ontario Media Violence Coalition and a writer and consultant for the CAMH Centre for Prevention Science. In 2011, she won the Premier’s Award for Teaching Excellence for her contributions to Media Education. She believes that “With great [technological] power, comes great responsibility” – a responsibility that we all share.
