Event description

Description

Trails to the Boundary Society is promoting two trail sections of the Trans Canada Trail/Kettle Valley Rail Trail located in the West Boundary. The Trans Canada Trail has awarded us a grant to throw a party with other communities across Canada. We are celebrating the full connection of the Great Trail and Canada's 150th on the same date.

Our goal is to encourage you to check out and support this amazing gem of a rail trail we have in the West Boundary!

At the finale of the trail celebration, we will be enchanted with entertainment by "The White Coal Trio" and a free lunch will be served to all who participated.

Here is a link to our poster for schedule information.

The first TCT-KVR section is approximately 18 km. It begins at "Mile 0" at the Kettle River Museum in Midway, BC and travels to Rock Creek Station/Rock Creek Market. A free "cyclists breakfast" will be presented by the Kettle River Museum between 8 am and 9 am in Midway BC. The route to Rock Creek leaves Mile 0 and travels through the Vaagen Millsite before joining the Kettle River at approximately 4 km.. The trail has grass and rough sections as it travels through industry/farm and ranch land. Please stay on the trail through this area to avoid spread of invasive plants. The trail detours onto the paved Kettle Valley Road South to Rock Creek Station. From here, the Rock Creek Market is across the Kettle Rivr and 500 meters east on Hwy #3.

The second TCT-KVR section is approximately 7 km. It begins at the Kettle River Provincial Park travelling down the Kettle River to Rock Creek Station/Rock Creek Market. If you haven't been on the TCT-KVR Rail Trail before, this section is suitable for beginner cyclists and hikers. The trail follows the Kettle River and is flat and not too rough. There is some sandy sections we hope to improve in the future. It travels for appoximately 2km on the paved East Kettle Road into Rock Creek Station. From here, the Rock Creek Market is across the Kettle River and 500 meters east on Hwy #3.

Details:

  • The recommended bike is minimum of a hybrid or mountain bike. Neither section of trail suitable for road bicycles. Please bring a well serviced bicycle, water, snacks and a bike tool kit. Please plan to be self-sufficent.

  • We encourage you to carpool to the starting points of Midway and the Kettle River Recreation Area. If you do your own shuttle, please leave the shuttle vehicle at Rock Creek Station. We will have shuttle assistance at the end of the celebration for those who would like a shuttle back to their start point. Of course you are welcome to return to your starting point on your own.

  • The event is entirely outside and will run rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

  • Be sure to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing for the weather. Participants will be responsible for bringing their own snacks, water, sun protection, and clothing.

  • This event is family friendly. Parents and caregivers must keep an eye on their children. We recommend to leave dogs at home, but if you can't, please use a leash in order to not disturb wildlife.

  • The trail event is best suited for people without mobility restrictions beause the rail trail is not yet wheel chair or scooter accessible. However, people with mobility restrictions can access the Rock Creek Market with care and also can access the TCT-KVR Rail Trail for a short distance at Kettle River Provincial Park.
