The Honourable Graydon Nicholas Speaks at 17th Annual Fundraising Breakfast
Event Information
Description
Celebrating St. Mark’s 60th anniversary at UBC, this year’s Breakfast, featuring Graydon Nicholas as our keynote speaker, will take place at Vancouver College on Saturday September 23, 2017 from 9:30-11:30 am. Judge, lecturer and former Lieutenant Governor of the Province of New Brunswick, Graydon was born on the Tobique Reserve in New Brunswick and is a member of the Maliseet First Nation. The first aboriginal person to receive a law degree in Atlantic Canada, the first to be made a judge and the first to be named Lieutenant Governor, he is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and is the Chair of the Native Studies at program at St. Thomas University. Graydon is deeply committed to advancing the importance of Aboriginal Christian life at the University, and this is a message that resonates so clearly with the Catholic College at UBC.
The Honourable Graydon Nicholas
The importance of Catholic higher education, which receives no government funding whatsoever while striving to meet our young people “where they are” on the journeys that are life and faith, is perhaps more important to the future of the church than it has ever been. This has been continuously stressed by Pope Francis, who encourages us to constantly be engaged in a spirit of encounter and dialogue, with each other, and with the world.
Funds raised will provide support for student scholarship and financial assistance programs.
Thank you to our sponsors in supporting the cost of the Breakfast. This is a free (and non-ticketed) event. However, an meaningful gift of support will be requested at the Breakfast. An official tax receipt will be issued for all donations received.
