The Gala

On Saturday September 30th, the first annual fundraiser gala for The Hot Potato Initiative will take place in the rustic Railtown industrial area, a mere 10 minute walk from Waterfront Station.

A social afternoon of live music, networking, and beverages/refreshments for high school students, The Hot Potato Gala will also feature a thought-provoking speaker series surrounding Vancouver's controversial homelessness crisis. Attendees will be given an intimate opportunity to explore the underlying sources and social symptoms of chronic poverty through gripping firsthand accounts.

Furthermore, students will also have the chance to learn more about The Initiative itself, our mission to destigmatize homelessness (including the why and the how), and how they themselves can take action and get involved.

The dress code will be cocktail/semiformal. There will be a photobooth available for attendees.

The Venue

The Settlement Building

Originally built in 1923 as a steel foundry, exposed wood beams, open skylights, and an industrial-chic shipping container make this unique warehouse space an unparrelleled location for photos and entertainment. Experience the rich culture behind the venue, with century-old doors brought in from a historic South American cathedral and original Douglas fir beams that have framed the building since the 1920s.
