The Journey to Resilience
Event Information
Description
Join us for an evening where Syrian refugees and newcomers express and demonstrate how they made Canada and Calgary their new home.
Through various forms of artistic expressions, they will share with us their stories of resiliency and resistance. Narratives will engage music, songs, poetry, and dance to bridge between the homes they left and the homes they build here. During this evening, we will celebrate with Syrian newcomers their stories of success and hope, and raise awareness with all the funds from this event going towards the families and communities left behind through the "Bayte Ana Baytak" civil labour organization.
On July 25th of this year, the city of Swaida, Syria, fell victim to an attack by the ISIS where more than 250 corpses were carried on the shoulders of family members and survivors.
Responding to the impact of these events, the Syrian community in Calgary, in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary, invites you to celebrate the Syrian community in Calgary and to support the people in Swaida dealing with the aftermath of these vicious attacks. May we continue to make a difference in our community as we strive for social justice for all in humanity.
