Description

THE LULLABY OF A NOMAD IS THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF THE TRADITION WHICH IS BEING MARGINALISED IN THE GLOBAL VILLAGE CENTURY!

The attempt will be to exhibit pieces of the Kurdish musical form on Kamanche (four strings Spiked-Fiddle), one of the oldest bowed string instruments from the Byzantine Empire and Golden Age century, which has a dominant role in the music of Iran, Azerbaijan, Kurdish regions, Turkey and Central Asia.

The event includes
I. The short speech about the Kamanche and music of Kurdistan on PowerPoint.
II. The Kamanche performance based on Northern Kurdistan (Turkey) Maqam including the old vocal song.
III. The feature performance will be an improvisation piece combination of unmetered vocal themes (Avaz) along with the simultaneous screening a graphic video (the collection of painting and old pictures from Kurdistan) this part will help to communicate with the music and culture.

Shahriyar Jamshidi, Kamanche player, composer, vocalist and founder of the Dilan Chamber Ensemble. Originally from Iranian Kurdistan, he has devoted his artistic career to the preservation and transmission of the Kurdish musical heritage. His released albums include Alvanati, Call of the Mountains and A Yellow Flower.
