Edmonton’s Greenwood Singers (www.greenwoodsingers.org), under the direction of Robert de Frece, launch their 40th season with their annual presentation of The Many Moods of Christmas at First Presbyterian Church (10025 – 105 Street) on Monday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. The choir will be joined by the University of Alberta Faculty of Education Handbell Ringers, organist Marnie Giesbrecht, pianist Helen Stuart, bassist Jeff Johnson and percussionist Murray Smith.
The program will include works spanning five centuries: motets from the late Renaissance by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and Hans Leo Hassler; anthems by Canadian composers Eleanor Daley and Mark Sirett and American composer Brent Pierce; carol arrangements by Mack Wilberg and Ryan Murphy with organ, piano and handbell accompaniment; and settings of popular Christmas songs with rhythm section. The program will also include the lively music making of the University of Alberta Faculty of Education Handbell Ringers, playing 75 English handbells and 56 handchimes.
