Event description

Description

Join us for a free public screening of The Mask You Live In, a documentary that challenges us to redefine traditional masculinity. Following the screening, we will host a discussion on what masculinity means today and how it relates to men's health. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Paul Gross, medical director and co-founder of the DUDES Club. Panelists include:

Dr. Jennifer Berdahl, Sauder School of Business;
Douglas Todd, Vancouver Sun;
Kyra Borland-Walker, UBC Speakeasy;
Dr. David Kuhl, Men's Transition Program.

The film will start at 3:30 PM and registration is required. Early arrivals will get free popcorn and drinks.

This screening is hosted in partnership with the Men's Depression and Suicide Network, funded by the Movember Foundation, Speakeasy, and the Crisis Centre. While the event is free admission, please consider making a small donation at the door. All proceeds will go to the Crisis Centre.

The mandate of the Men’s Depression and Suicide Network is to create more effective intervention programs for men. Some of the programs we’re working with include HeadsUpGuys, an online depression resource and self-check, Man-Up Against Suicide, a photo-voice project dealing with male suicide, and the DUDES Club, a bi-weekly meeting of men that promotes brotherhood.

If you’re willing to help us improve our programs, please complete this short survey. As a thank you for your time, you will be entered into a quarterly drawn for $500.
