The Executive Directors and the BC Societies Act
The new BC Societies Act is in force as of November 28, 2016.
The Act says that once that happens, you have two years to transition your existing constitution and bylaws onto the new Registrar’s system.
Regardless of when you make that transition, as soon as the Act comes into force, your society must operate in accordance with the new Act.
As the Executive Director, you sit in a unique position. One of your roles is to support your board as they go through the change process and another is to ensure that your society is able to comply with the Act.
In this workshop, Claire Rettie and Ann Moskow, who did the training on the provisions of the new Act, will walk you through the Act and flag key areas for you.
In this workshop they will:
-
define areas within the bylaws that can be addressed by senior staff without impinging on board business;
-
support you in setting objectives and planning for this work, and
-
offer an approach for developing new bylaws that meets the needs, complexity and capacity of your organization.
