Presentation Title:

The New Central Library

Presentation Summary:

Opening this fall, the Calgary’s New Central Library is situated just East of City Hall in East Village. Built over an active LRT track with a curving crescent shape, the hybrid steel and concrete structure presented unique design constraints for the project team. The new structure features architecturally exposed concrete throughout the 240,000 square feet of flexible interior space and integrates large three-storey tall steel trusses into the concrete elements to achieve exterior column-free spans up to 83’ in length. This presentation will focus on the concrete and steel design features of the building and how they were integrated together throughout the structure.
