About this Event
The African continent has over1,000 species of leafy vegetables, and 3,000 species of fruit trees, that are undervalued and underutilized. There are many untapped foods essential and critical to our health, healing, wellbeing. This workshop will provide an overview of ancestral foods in the categories of Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Tubers, Flowers, and Medicinal Trees. There will be subsequent workshops that will delve in-depth into each food.
In this workshop, you will learn: 1. The history of ancestral foods across the African continent, which foods can be found in which countries, what seasons do they grow, and how have they supported many communities. 2. We will identify 3 main foods in each of the category of Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Tubers, Flowers, and Medicinal Trees. 3. You will learn how each food in the above categories have been traditionally used, and how you can utilize these foods in your everyday life for health, and wellbeing.
