Ye Shall Have A Song
Randall Thompson's extended composition The Peaceable Kingdom, inspired by the Edward Hicks' painting of the same name, explores themes of good, evil, and peace. Canadian composer Iman Habibi's Colour of Freedom, reacting to the 2009 "Green Movement" in Iran which saw the death and imprisonment of dozens of Iranian protestors, is a stirring work culminating in a 'magnificent light' featuring guest soloist Amir Haghighi. Paired with Mendelssohn's Verleih uns Frieden and Roxanna Panufnik's St Aidan's Prayer, the Vancouver Cantata Singers end their season FORTITUDE: Strength in Song with a thought-provoking concert advocating for peace on our planet through spirituality, humanity, and song.
