The PepTides Album Release Show: LOVE QUESTION MARK
Event Information
Description
The PepTides are happy to announce the Official Album Release Show for LOVE QUESTION MARK.
featuring special guest Gary Franks
The wait is over. On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, Canadian pop noir sensation The PepTides will be releasing LOVE QUESTION MARK. The album, which will be available both on CD and online, is an audacious collection of “love songs for the 21st century” that mirrors their acclaimed record FOR THOSE WHO HATE HUMAN INTERACTION. In this ambitious new release, The PepTides peer through the kaleidoscope into the shadowy corners of love and her strange bedfellows, including ecstasy, sex, revenge, religion, science and industry. With irresistible beats, stunning vocals and razor-sharp lyrics, the energetic nine-member band lays it on thick with a set of dark and danceable electro-pop numbers. The PepTides will be premiering the songs live on Saturday, May 3 at St. Alban’s Church in Ottawa, Ontario. Bring glow sticks.
LOVE QUESTION MARK presents all shades of pop from playful (“I Love You Made in China”,“Homme Love Whore”) to provocative (“202 Love Washington DC”, “Love Thy Neighbour”) and even existential (“Love, Live, Get High”). The album also features a bonus side of experimental, retro-tinged tracks—including the sublime “Love Will Find You”—making the collection a full-fledged musical odyssey.
The PepTides bring you songs that brim with passion, pleasure, magnetism and mystique, channelling the very best of their legendary off-the-wall creative energy and theatrical stage presence into LOVE QUESTION MARK. Period.

The PepTides
In the studio and on the stage, the nine-member band’s creations run the gamut from uproarious electro-synth pop anthems to tender acoustic ballads—giving a chipper nod to every genre in between. Incisive lyrics contrast with layered harmonies, catchy backbeats and whimsical sound effects in an exploration of the existential questions “What happened?”, “What’s wrong?” and “What next?”. Past albums include Revenge of the Vinyl Cafe (2013, a special original soundtrack to Stuart McLean’s book of the same title) and For Those Who Hate Human Interaction (2010, voted Best Album of the Year by the Ottawa Citizen). Fans eagerly await the answer to the question “What is love?” in the forthcoming release of Love Question Mark in 2014.
The PepTides were featured live on CBC Radio’s Vinyl Cafe in the summer of 2013, reaching over one million listeners in Canada and around the world. They have charmed audiences on other CBC shows (Ottawa Morning, All in a Day), as well as at major festivals (Ottawa Jazz Festival, Ottawa Bluesfest), theatres (Centrepointe Theatres, Shenkman Arts Centre), bars (Black Sheep Inn, Horseshoe Tavern, Les Bobards) and showcases (Contact East, OCFF). PepTides 360, an intimate theatre-in-the-round experience, was voted Best Live Show of 2011 by the readers of Ottawa XPress.
A ticket to see The PepTides is an invitation to partake in a lavish pre-apocalyptic fête. The energetic troop brings audiences an eclectic spectacle complete with set pieces, time-warped costumes and infectious dancing. Bringing dark themes and 21st-century social commentary squarely into the pop realm, The PepTides serve their pointed offering in an irresistible package of silk, soul, fedoras and funk. MuchMore Music’s take on The PepTides says it all: “Mixing their stunning vocals with funk beats underneath a soulful sound, an abundance of theatrical dance moves and kitschy quirks, they defy any genre or description. One must simply see them to believe them.”
