Description

The Pipeline at Volta: Social Innovation Training

Applying your business strength for community improvement

Overview:

The Pipeline at Volta introduces a new framework to show companies how they can leverage their strengths and resources to improve their communities in a way that aligns with their core business model. The Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre uses a training and coaching process built around the core tenants of design thinking and lean startup methodologies to show companies how to dissect community challenges and apply what they do best, to create a program that helps the community and the business in equal parts.

Three-phase process:

  1. Think Differently | Thursday, September 19, 10AM - 4PM
Ideation training that teaches participants to fully dissect a community need and develop holistic opportunities for action.

  2. Idea to Impact | One-on-One Coaching
Participants complete a series of exercises and
in-field tasks, focused on implementing their solution and achieving their first measure of social impact within a six-week period.

  3. Strategize and Scale | Thursday, October 31, 10AM - 4PM
Participants develop a support ecosystem to ensure the growth and sustainability of their solution and work with the SMUEC to scale and promote its impact.

What businesses will learn:

  • Understand the Pipeline’s Social Innovation framework and how their organization can have a greater impact on the communities in which they operate.

  • Engage complex problems in new ways, including observing and mapping systems with greater efficiency, defining problems, experimenting and iterating solutions.

  • Increase clarity of purpose and flexibility in the role of change-maker, innovator or business owner.

  • Businesses will launch an initiative capable of achieving high community impact; this initiative will push their organization to the forefront of corporate social innovation in Atlantic Canada.
