About this event
Caelis Academy Ensmble, under the direction of Matthew Larkin, Eva Hassell, and Nick Veltmeyer, welcome guests Caroline Leonardelli (harp) and Dominique Moreau (percussion) in a very special performance of music celebrating the commonwealth and harmony of peoples and nations. With poetry taken from the Book of Psalms, St. Augustine, John Bunyan, and Christopher Smart, we offer Benjamin Britten’s Festival Te Deum (conducted by Nick, with Matthew at the organ), his cantata, Rejoice in the Lamb (conducted by Eva, with Matthew at the organ), Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms (conducted by Matthew, with Nick at the organ, and guest instrumentalists), Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Valiant for truth, and Psalm settings by Herbert Howells, Matthew Larkin, Aditi Magdalena, Vaughan Williams, and Henry Walford Davies. This concert takes place at the historic and beautiful Mazenod Chapel at St. Paul University. Soloists from the choir will be featured throughout the programme.
This will mark our sixth and final “live and in-person” concert of 2021-2022, and we offer it with a sincere longing for peace in the world, and for mutual respect and friendship between nations and peoples.
Seating is not reserved, and sales are exclusively through Eventbrite. Proof of vaccination, distancing, and masking are not required. We respectfully ask that attendees respect the personal space of other concert-goers. Parking is available on Main Street, of Hazel Avenue (university parking lots), and the chapel is accessible either by 249 (elevator available) or 233 Main Street, on the second floor.
