About this event

What is the role of EGD in confronting social issues, improving our environment and contributing to community health? As designers, we consider these factors in many of our projects and aim to push the envelope on how design can serve our community and our planet. Please join us as we dig into this question further by highlighting speakers and projects that focus on this idea of protection, whether it be in terms of safety, or our environment.

When: Wednesday, April 19, 5:15pm - 7:30pm

Where: hcma at 675 West Hastings St, Unit #400, Vancouver, BC V6B 1N2

Admission: $10 for SEGD members and students, $20 for non-members

Presenters:

  • Mike Sheard, Professor of Criminology, Kwantlen Polytechnic University will present his work in the field of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), particularly an important neighbourhood safety project, METRAC, which exemplifies the importance of wayfinding for safety, crime reduction and mental wellbeing.
  • Angela Danyluk, Senior Environment Specialist, City of Vancouver will discuss the Sea2City Design Challenge, which aimed to rethink the future of the False Creek shoreline and was made possible by a year-long collaboration between City staff, local coastal adaptation experts and Host Nation representatives, knowledge keepers, and designers from Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh.
